I had an idea to write a poem of the Bible chapter by chapter, each line representing a chapter of the Bible. Here is my poem for Luke:
1. Pre-partum Gabriel declares two blessed,
2. The growing baby fills Mary’s treasure chest,
3. Trinity baptism and a list of seventy,
4. Forty days with the devil, then to Galilee,
5. Nets and ceilings and wineskins break,
6. Sabbath Lord’s words like house that doesn’t shake,
7. The Expected One’s feet get wet with tears,
8. Listen to the Storm-calmer bring back twelve years,
9. Who is this Jerusalem bound without a bed?
10. Seventy and a Samaritan revive people half dead,
11. Praying demons out of a wicked generation,
12. Waiting for the kingdom, a treasure more than nations,
13. Fruiting on the Sabbath toward Jerusalem town,
14. Teaching at the table to lay all things down,
15. Three people found the things they lost,
16. Only one Master of the chasm uncrossed,
17. Sea-throwing, ten lepers, and lightning days,
18. Praying for the kingdom eyes that he will raise,
19. Taxman, minas, and disciples sing him a song,
20. Scribes asking short questions in robes that are long,
21. Our Redeemer at the end of all things won’t hide,
22. The Passover is fulfilled as the Son of God is denied,
23. Pilate sentenced death to an innocent man,
24. The Risen One opened up the written plan.
What Bible Poem will you write? Could your family write a poem of the Bible together?
